About the Speakers:
Dr. Ana Maria Lopez
Chief of Cancer Services, Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center NJ
Dr. López joined Jefferson in 2018 from the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, UT, where she was Director of Cancer Health Equality. A board-certified Medical Oncologist, she has extensive experience in in breast and gynecological cancers, integrative medicine, telehealth and cancer disparities. Currently, Dr. L López is President of the American College of Physicians, the largest medical specialty organization in the U.S. Additionally, her strong commitment to cancer disparities is reflected in her leadership of the American Society of Clinical Oncology committee on cancer disparities. Her main areas of professional interest and expertise include cancer prevention, integrative oncology, and innovations in healthcare.
Dr. López graduated from Bryn Mawr College and received her medical degree from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Jefferson - what was then known as the Jefferson Medical College - and has family in the area, so she is excited to be coming back to the Philadelphia region. "I spent some wonderful formative years in this part of the world," she said. "Now, with my adult children here, I feel very at home. I look forward to walking, enjoying the change of seasons, and engaging the community in the ebb and flow of life."
Abigale Hassel, MSW, LCSW, OSW-C
Oncology Social Worker, Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center NJ
Abigale has worked in the field of Oncology Social Work for nearly 10 years. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Abigale holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in social work (MSW) from Rutgers University. An Oncology Certified Social Worker, she is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW).
Ms. Hassel will speak about updates in both patient and caregiver support.
Lee Agostini
Research Scientist and PhD Candidate in Genetics, Genomics, and Cancer Biology
Lebaron Agostini is a 4th year Ph.D. Candidate at Thomas Jefferson University, currently researching novel therapeutic combinations for pancreatic cancer treatment under the mentorship of Dr. Jonathan Brody, Director of Surgical Research and Co-director of the Jefferson Pancreas, Biliary, and Related Cancer Center. Lebaron received his bachelor's in molecular and cellular biology from Florida Atlantic University in 2015 and is a 2015 FLACE "student of the year" award recipient. His research interests are in cancer biology and the discovery of new therapeutic combinations. Lebaron is an active member and former VP of strategic development for Jefferson's Business and Biotechnology student organization.
